The Instructor Mini Workout: 15 min ‘Living Room’ Mobility Flow

The Instructor Mini Workout: 15 min ‘Living Room’ Mobility Flow cover

We’ve all had those mornings when you wake up late, time is tight, or you don’t feel like going to the gym because it’s pouring rain and blowing a gale outside. But missing your normal routine doesn't mean you have to rule out moving your body entirely.

Getting some form of movement in the morning is crucial. A quick morning stretch actively lubricates your joints, jumpstarts your blood flow, and releases lingering overnight muscle tension. Even better, it acts as a natural wake-up call, shaking off the grogginess and leaving you sharper and more alert for the day ahead.

To help you get moving without leaving the house, the fitness team at BayFit has shared this excellent routine.

Your 15-Minute Routine

Work through these eight movements at your own pace to get your body primed for the day ahead

1. March on the Spot (2 mins): Warm up by marching in place, swinging your arms naturally, and gradually increasing your pace.

2. Cat-Cow Stretch (1 min): On your hands and knees, inhale to arch your back and lift your chest (Cow), then exhale to round your spine and tuck your chin (Cat).

3. World’s Greatest Stretch (2 mins / 1 min per side): Step into a deep lunge with hands inside your front foot. Rotate your upper body, reaching your inside arm toward the ceiling.

4. Bodyweight Squats (2 mins): With feet shoulder-width apart, keep your chest lifted, sit your hips back into a comfortable squat, and return to standing

5. Glute Bridges (2 mins): Lie on your back with knees bent. Tighten your core, push through your heels to lift your hips, and squeeze your glutes at the top.

6. Bird Dogs (2 mins): On all fours, extend one arm forward while kicking the opposite leg straight back. Hold for a couple of seconds, then alternate sides

7. Standing Hip Openers (2 mins): Stand tall, lift one knee to hip height, rotate it out to the side, and lower it. Alternate legs (hold a wall if you need balance).

8. Shoulder & Chest Mobility (2 mins): Loosen up with slow arm circles and shoulder rolls. Finish by clasping your hands behind your back and gently lifting your arms to open your chest.

Quick Tip: You don't need gym equipment or a lot of space to make a massive difference in how your body feels. Keep this flow handy for your next rainy morning!
