Shaping Swimmers for Life: The Role of BlueFit’s Dedicated Swim Instructors

Shaping Swimmers for Life: The Role of BlueFit’s Dedicated Swim Instructors cover

At BlueFit Swimming, our Swim Instructors play an integral part in delivering high-quality lessons while fostering a love for swimming among children and adults alike. This role isn’t just about teaching swimming techniques—it's about creating an engaging and supportive environment where students can build confidence in the water, learn vital water safety skills, and develop a lifelong connection with swimming.

A Day in the Life of a Swim Instructor

Swim Instructors at BlueFit Swimming work closely with students of all ages and abilities, from young toddlers taking their first splash to school-aged children refining their stroke techniques. A typical day might involve:

  • Running Lessons: Delivering structured, fun, and safe swimming lessons that focus on skill development and water safety, tailored to each student's needs and progress.
  • Building Relationships: Encouraging students, boosting their confidence, and fostering a positive connection to the water.
  • Monitoring Progress: Providing constructive feedback and tracking the student’s progress, helping them advance through BlueFit Swimming’s levels of achievement.
  • Safety First: Maintaining a vigilant eye on safety in the water, ensuring a safe learning environment for all participants

Our Swim Instructors are dedicated to making every lesson enjoyable and impactful, ensuring students feel confident and supported in their swimming journey. As Emily Cox, one of our instructors, shares, "I always enjoy working with children and helping them develop their skills and confidence as it is always super rewarding. Forming close relationships with families really makes teaching super engaging."

Instructors at BlueFit not only teach valuable water skills, but they also share in the emotions of their students' progress—wiping away their tears on their first day and celebrating their joy when they achieve their very first swimming milestone. This journey of growth is as rewarding for the instructors as it is for the students.

Stephanie Paterson, BlueFit's National Swim School Manager, reflected on her journey, saying:
"I decided to have a complete career change from working in the corporate world to becoming a swim instructor. I had no idea how rewarding being an instructor would be. The impact we have on families is unbelievable, and you can see the look you get from parents when their child swims on their own for the first time or just submerges for the first time—it's pure elation and pride. I have been with BlueFit now for nearly 10 years, and I love seeing the students I taught at 3 years old now swimming in our squads program. Watching them progress through our levels is so rewarding, especially when you know you started their journey."

Next time you’re at the facility, be sure to wave hello to your swim teachers – they’re always excited to see their students and families at the pool!

Hear from one of our new employees who recently completed their free training

“I thought being a Swim Instructor was only for people who are great swimmers, or had studied at university, but BlueFit made me feel welcome and the free training helped me realise being a Swim Instructor is for everyone with basic swimming skills and is passionate about teaching valuable life skills to children. From the time I started my training, I fell in love with being a Swim Instructor and now look forward to teaching each week. The flexible shift times also allow me to work around my studies which is also another great benefit!” – Sarah, BlueFit Swimming
