Member Spotlight - Men’s Mental Health Week cover

Men's Mental Health Week in June is an important time to pause, reflect, and keep the conversation going. It's about creating spaces where we can talk openly about well-being and remind each other that mental health is just as important as physical health.

To help us mark the occasion, we caught up with 21-year-old Will. For Will, the gym has evolved from just a place to train into a vital tool for balancing work, everyday life, and his overall wellbeing.

While his initial focus was on building strength, endurance, and recovery to stay at his best on the footy field, the benefits have extended far beyond his athletic performance. Since committing to a consistent routine, Will has noticed major improvements in his energy, confidence, and mindset.

"Training for footy keeps me motivated, but the mental side has been just as important," Will shares, noting how exercise has helped him feel more disciplined in all areas of life. "The gym helps clear my head and keeps me feeling strong and focused."

Taking that first step into a fitness facility can often be intimidating, especially if you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure of where to begin. Will’s approach to overcoming this hurdle is refreshingly grounded. He encourages other men to avoid falling into the trap of measuring themselves against others.

"Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, just focus on improving a little each week," he advises. "Starting is the hardest part, but once you build the habit, everything gets easier."

His story is a great reminder that focusing on your own path and simply showing up for yourself is half the battle. Whether you are lifting weights, training for a local sports team, or joining a group fitness class, building a consistent routine is an incredible way to clear your head, build confidence, and take charge of your mental health.

Well done, Will!
